Westminster Dog Show & Doggy Treats

February 18, 2011

Congratulations to Hickory, the Scottish Deerhound, a very old breed & the newest Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Champion! She is a 5 year old beauty that gracefully glides across the judging arena & shows poise & aplomb under the close examination of the television cameras.

It is a travesty that the Golden Retriever has never won Best in Show at Westminster! I am prejudiced having had Goldens at stud for years. They are the greatest dogs in the world to raise with kids. When we had to put down Prince Caspian, our last Golden, I wanted a dog I could pick up with one hand to bathe – enter Lucy Queen of Narnia, my Cairn Terrier. (Have you noticed that I never outgrew Narnia?)

Lu has been my constant companion for over 10 years, keeping squirrels off the bird feeders, watching goldfish in the ponds & begging for baby carrots when anyone opens the veggie drawer in the frig.
