Small Town Signs & Southern Tea Cookies

June 8, 2011

Driving through small towns in the south, you never know what you will see. Traversing rural Tennessee on my way to rural Alabama recently I noticed a flashing sign at the local Baptist church.

“Hey You!” “Jesus saves!”

Well, yes He does, but… hmm… uhh… is this the best way to announce that joyous fact to the world?

Just next door to the church the Sonic Drive-in’s flashing sign proclaimed “New Double Stuff Oreo Sonic Blast.” On the other side of the street, the local motel had a sign, “Free Wi-Fi!” The local bank, “The time is 3:27pm.” “The temperature is 91.” “We make loans!”

Why didn’t I bring my camera!
