Passover Lamb

John 1:36 “…Behold the Lamb of God…”

So much for taking this week off…
Snuggling with lambs yesterday, I couldn’t help but think of the Passover lamb of the Old Testament that the Lord God, I Am, required as sacrifice for the Hebrew children in captivity, to save them from the Lord’s Passover in the land of Egypt.

Exodus 12:21 “Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover lamb.”

Ezra 6:20 “For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together; all of them were pure. Then they slaughtered the Passover lamb for all the exiles, both for their brothers the priests and for themselves.”

Luke 22:7 “Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.”

Lamb

From that point, it is a simple step to The Lamb of God, Agnus Dei, who takes away the sins of the world – Jesus the Christ.

Lamb w ewe

The use of a lamb as the representative of innocence is perfect – the little things are utterly defenseless, trusting, precious.

Like a lamb to the slaughter.

Isaiah 53: 7 “He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.”

Jeremiah 11:19 “But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter; And I did not know that they had devised plots against me, saying, ‘Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, And let us cut him off from the land of the living, That his name be remembered no more.'”

John 19:10 “So Pilate said to Him, ‘You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?'”

Lamb of God

Revelation 7:17 “…for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd and guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”
