Good Friday’s Gift
APRIL 22, 2011

Good Friday, also called Holy Friday, is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. It has also been called Great Friday, Black Friday, Sad Friday & Sorrowful Friday.
On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering, & death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Thorns heart

Many Christians spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, & meditation on the agony & suffering of Christ on the cross. This account of Jesus’ death on the cross, His burial & His resurrection, can be found in the Bible: Matthew 27:27-28:8; Mark 15:16-16:19; Luke 23:26-24:35; & John 19:16-20:30.

Attend your church’s Good Friday service, or the service of a church in your area. Consider what Jesus did, purposely did – offered Himself as sacrifice for all sinners. Think about that…He didn’t die for His best friend or in place of a really good, kind person – He gave His life for people who hated Him, who tortured Him, who were His enemy! Who would do that? The spotless Lamb of God. He gave His life, a ransom for many to save us, once for all. A free gift. All we have to do is accept it. No working hard to be good enough – you can’t ever be good enough. Not something that can be bought – He didn’t sell Himself, but gave Himself. He shed His blood, He died that we might live.

Use this day as an opportunity to seek the Lord’s face – pray.

“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

Talk to Him. Talk to Him as you would a friend…because He is your friend.
